UKREF Robotics Competitions 2009 - 2010

UKREF is planning to sponsor and host two robotics competitions in the year 2009 - 2010
These are

The Great SHRDLU Revival Competition is planned to take place in mid December 2009 in London, and the The Great Robot Dance Competition is planned to take place in early spring 2010

The outline rules, sections and challenges for these competitions have been prepared

  • "Rules for the Great Robot Dance Competition"
  • "Rules for the Great SHRDLU Revival Competition"
  • As well as providing much entertainment there is a more serious side to these competitions. This is connected with the ability of robots to interact with one another as well as with people, and to work co-operatively. As all code and designs for robots taking part in the competition are required to be open source it is hoped that the competition will act as a hub for developing more sophisticated and more socially useful robots. The challenges posed in both competitions are substantial. It is hoped that they are not excessively difficult. Feedback and ideas will be very much appreciated, as well as contributions such as links to interesting research papers, robotics designs and robotics and AI software.

Sponsorship and interest from the media will also be very welcome.

Prizes planned in each section will be a first prize of at least £1000 and a number of runner up prizes. It is also planned to have a prize of £5000 for the overall competition champion for each competition.
